Wrinkle Cream 101 : What Every Woman Should Know

by Jen Hopkins

Women are afraid to grow old because of the effects that it has on their skin. The formation of wrinkles is very rampant as they age which is why they become highly dependent on anti-wrinkle creams. Women will always have at least one bottle of wrinkle cream that she uses. These creams promise to remove the wrinkles on the face which is why women are going crazy over them. Before getting wrinkle creams, it is best if you know the ingredients that are used to make them.

Retinol is one of the most common ingredients used in anti-wrinkle creams. Retinol is a derivative compound of vitamin A which counteracts the effect of free radicals on the skin. In short, this is an anti-oxidant which prevents the formation of wrinkles caused by the degradation of the skin cells. Retinol is a safe compound except for pregnant women because this can lead to defects on the baby.

Hydroxy acids are commonly known for its exfoliating property. Alpha hydroxyl acid, beta hydroxyl acid and poly hydroxyl acids are all exfoliants used in wrinkle creams. These work to remove the top layer of the skin and the dead skin cells which enhances the replacement of a new layer of skin. When using hydroxyl acid, always make sure to wear sunscreen to protect your skin from the sun.

L-Ascorbic Acid is a compound related to vitamin C. The reason why it is commonly used in most wrinkle creams is because it works as an anti-oxidant. This prevents break down of the skin that can lead to wrinkles. This also stimulates collagen production in the skin to retain it elasticity. L-Ascorbic Acid protects the skin from the sun, keeping it looking younger and healthier.

Coenzyme Q10will always be present in anti-aging products. This specific nutrient regulates the activity of the cells in the body. This is added to wrinkle creams since it works as an effective anti-oxidant. This helps in the repair of the skin cells, reducing the formation of fine lines and wrinkles on the skin. The application of this on the affected area will enhance skin cell repair giving smoother and younger-looking skin.

Anti-wrinkle creams do help in reducing wrinkle formation on the face. These may make the fine lines less visible but these do not guarantee to erase them completely. Be aware of the products that you buy. Read labels before purchasing to be sure of what you are getting. There are certain over the counter products which may also contain lesser amounts of the ingredients. If you can, there are doctors who are willing to help you and give you advice on which creams are really effective.
