by Jen Hopkins

People often see our hands no matter what we are doing. Since this is the most exposed part of the body, we have to make sure that we keep it clean all the time. Not only do our hands matter, but also our nails. Taking care of the nails is not only for other to see but also to keep them healthy.

Unkept nails often lead to infections such as onychomycosis and paronychia. These are caused by dirty nails and even chipped off nails. Dirty nails serves as a breeding ground for certain fungi. Especially if the nails are damaged, these fungi can work its way into your body.

Preventive measures must be taken all the time when you want to have beautiful nails. Regular manicures are highly recommended. This keeps the nails clean and at the right length. Plus, a manicure makes the nails look more presentable. You can have it done in your nearby parlor or you can do it on your own. As long as you have your nails cleaned, it is okay.

If you are not willing to spend on a manicure, you should just keep your nails trimmed. It is not advisable to grow your nails long as it is more exposed to dirt and to physical damage. Having the nails cut at the right length will keep your nails healthy as well as presentable.

Milk is a good source of calcium. As we know it, calcium play an important role in the growth of nails. Since calcium help the nails grow stronger, you need this. Drink milk daily and see how this will affect the growth of your nails. Also, increase the foods rich in calcium that you eat everyday. Do not take nail care for granted even for your diet.

Water effectively hydrates the body. Since the nails are composed of keratin and epithelial cells, these are often dry. Besides from applying olive oil on the nails, there are other ways of hydrating the nails. As a part of nail care, the nails need a constant supply of moisture. Drinking the regular 8 to 10 glasses of water will be helpful in moisturizing the nails. Nails which are dry often lead to chipping.

Better nail care products are available in the market. Since solvent-based nail products often pose harm to both the human and the environment, people created a better alternative. The regular nail polish is composed of 75% solvents. For the water-based nail polish, this huge amount is replace by water. This will indeed be more beneficial when you use this. Switch to organic and water-based nail polish.

Take care of your nails all the time. Make sure that whenever you flaunt your hands, people see clean nails. Take your time in learning about the proper way to care for you nails. In time you will see improvement on your nails.
